Style for your Shape Series - Rectangle

Sorry i have been so slack with my blogs lately, my computer hasn't been letting me log on - so I'm probably gonna make up for it this week! Oops and girls the pressies are still coming - i just haven't had a chance to get to the post office!! (i know, i know - slack!!) And Ive just started reading the twilight series - and I'm obsessed (sad for a 28 year old woman!!!).

Rectangle

The width of the shoulders is more or less the same width as the hips, with little or no waist definition.

Famous Rectangles:
-Jennifer Garner
-Courtney Cox
-Nicole Kidman
-Nicole Ritchie
-Natalie Portman

You’ll be amazed at how you can change the look of your body and create a more feminine image. Start by wearing belts. Skinny, wide, or in between, they’re your best choice for accentuating—and creating—a waistline. Choose wrap tops and dresses that gather or tie at your waist, drawing diagonal lines that point right to it. Corset tops are also good, because the cinch in your middle and create the illusion of the waist you're
missing.
Drawstring pants are wonderful for you, because the gathering creates fullness in the hips to give the illusion of a waist. Don’t wear extremely low-slung pants, because they’ll make you look like a box. A slightly higher rise will give the illusion of a curvier figure.
Boxy sleeveless tops are a no-no for you. They draw horizontal, masculine lines on your body, and you don't want more of these. Also avoid loose-fitting dresses. Their shapeless style will make you look...well...shapeless! And always make sure your jackets don't have wide lapels that add unnecessary width and squareness to you upper body.

Style solutions for the Rectangle:
Best Feature: Arms and Legs

The key for the rectangle is to soften the lines of your body whenever you can. This means paying attention to fabrics and cuts and avoiding those that add unnecessary hard angles to your frame. Showing some skin is a good way to add softness, so choose sleeveless tops that are cut to bare more of your shoulder. Team then with Capri's to bare some skin on the bottom, too.
Gauzy, flowing fabrics and silks and silks and satin are always great choices. Curvy cuts, soft ruffles, and fluted edges all work to balance your straighter lines. Show off your feminine side by wearing skirts and dresses, especially ones with asymmetrical hemlines.
When you are wearing masculine styles like blazers and trousers, add something feminine to soften the lines—or a sexy lace camisole. Your waistline should be your focal point as often as possible, so your closet should be stocked with expressive belts, fitted tops and jackets and skirts that have a higher waistline.
When choosing evening wear go try a Corset top!

A Shapelier silhouette can be attained by visually adding subtle width to the shoulders by wearing:
¨ Deep wide V– necks
¨ Boat necks
¨ Wide scoop necklines
¨ Shirring or easing at the shoulders
¨ Cap sleeves
Create the illusion of a waist by wearing:
¨ Deep V-necks
¨ Colour blocking combinations
¨ Wide belts around the hips
¨ Wrap tops that tie around the waist
¨ Open single breasted jackets
¨ Flared or A-line skirts
Avoid
¨ Baggy pants,
¨ Anything double breasted

Hey ladies

Well i didn't win - god i wanted to - but i didn't - and I'm not gonna bitch about the girl who won - even though it was a sympathy vote and she didn't even address the criteria of the competition - I'm not bitter...... am I???

Anyway i am soooo proud of the label - and honestly it was a big hit!! Click my title above and you can check out the 9 news footage - and my girl Melanie (with the purple hair) from the Elizabeth store chats to the 9 news team about the day - you go girl - they won the store managers comp and got to go see it as well!! Here is a peak at the clothing that was on the runway - still i reckon they could have had a more cohesive collection - it was a bit department store in some sections and way, way to short for my liking - i have horrible legs - but the final dresses where stunning, Ive got a wedding coming up so fingers crossed they are available soon xoxox

Style for your Shape Series - Apple

Hey Ladies

this is the first in a series ive been working on for style's that suit your shape! I have poured over all me books and the internet to find the best tips for your figure at any size.

The Apple

Famous Apples: Oprah Winfrey, Queen Latifah, Beth Ditto, Sherri Shepherd

You wonder why you never see your body type addressed in the fashion magazines. After all, the average Australian woman is a size 14-16, depending on which survey you read—yet women in the media are usually no bigger than an 8. Now you can be as dazzling as the slinky girls, because fashion is evolving beyond the big and baggy look.
The key idea for the apple is to create lines where none exist. Since your body is round, drawing lines and angles on it with the right clothing will help to counteract it, creating the shape and curve your strive for.
Try a V-neck top with an empire waistline. The V will slim your bust-line, the seaming under your brats will provide lift and support, and the fabric below will fall loosely over your midsection for the perfect concealment. Fabric that are more substantial are good, because they drape nicely over anything you want to hide. Tops with long sleeves are always a plus, but they should never cling to your fuller upper arms. Loose, flowy fabrics like silks, rayon's, and gauzy cotton also make the grade. Wear stretchy fitted tanks or t-shirts underneath to add support, hide any bumps and bulges, and provide these lighter fabrics with a solid foundation.
Pants and Skirts that fall in a straight line from the hip down and skim over your middle are smart choices. Keep in mind that anything that clings to tightly to the fuller parts of your body will put emphasis in the wrong places. Prints and patterns can actually distract from the things you want to conceal, so they can be assets to the apple. Feel free to wear them with confidence, and break them up with a solid colour here and there. A slightly larger print is best as smaller prints can make you look bigger sometimes - best to try different combinations!

Ok here are some good tips - balance will occur by visually slimming the upper body by wearing:

Shoulder pads—now don't screw your nose up, they have come along way since the 80’s! The right ones can be the best slimming tool or even tops with puffy sleeves!
Deep V or U neckline—if you’ve got them flaunt them I say!
Vertical and diagonal lines - if done correctly!

Tops with side splits that end just below or at the tummy line.
Tops that drape rather than cling around and underneath the tummy, especially if the are longer.
Cross-over necklines or Wrap tops!
Dresses can be a problem but a Wrap dress can look stunning and a knee lenght or floor length empire line dresses are perfect!
Tunic tops with elegantly loose straight cut pants or a straight skirt.
If you want to feel a little sexy a crisp white shirt and a nice pencil skirt with a split is a good choice.
Take advantage of eye-up accessories
Don’t be afraid of colour!
Avoid—anything tight or clingy, shiny fabrics, tight belts, tight waist bands that cause the stomach to spill over the top, hipsters, anything double breasted and oversized!

So there you have it Apples - what good for your shape!! Hope you find it helpful!

Some inspiration.....

Fashion Photography - Sarah Moon

I have had a love of fashion photography for awhile now and living in a house with 2 other artists means there is alot of inspiration around!!! When i stumbled across the "Fashion Book by Phaidon" i was so inspired by the photography of Sarah Moon i got out my dusty old Polaroid and Pentax 35mm camera and started shooting! then i got sentimental - It's so unfortunate that we have lost the old style of making photos and memories, I love the old 8mm home movies my papa made and the 70's color of all my mums and dads old photos!! I think digital cameras have lost that candid quality of the old film. So lucky for me we have managed to score some good dark room equipment (for free i might add ;-) from a high school and now we are in the process of building our very own dark room!! YAY!! I cant wait to experiment with different emulsions and chemicals, anyway lets get down to the pictures -

Below are some of the images that Sarah Moon has created - it features her own work and the 1972 Pirelli Calender.

1972 Pirelli Calender

Some of her own work - isn't it amazing!
Next Time - David laChapel!!
